David Pollack is one of the greatest Georgia Bulldogs of all time. Not only because of his extremely successful career in Athens, but also because of the great career he has created in the media as well.

Pollack was a member of ESPN’s College GameDay crew for 12 years. Beginning in 2011 he brought a lot of knowledge and passion to the show that everyone even outside of Georgia thoroughly enjoyed.

Unfortunately ESPN let him go during the summer of 2023 which left Georgia fans (and the rest of the nation) stunned. Pollack was also very surprised as well, as he recently explained to On3’s Josh Pate.

David Pollack reflects on his departure from ESPN’s College GameDay

One of the things that made Pollack so great on College GameDay was how knowledgeable he was about the sport. Yes it was always nice to see a Georgia Bulldog sitting behind that desk every Saturday, but his unbiased opinions on the sport were always well received.

In 2023 though ESPN moved on from him and welcomed in guys like Pat McAfee who brought a completely new “in your face” style of commentary. While he can be entertaining, it has made a lot of fans miss the insight that Pollack would bring in a more controlled manor. At the top of that list is Georgia fans, even if Pollack doesn’t sing UGA’s praises all the time.

Pollack has remained active in the media space, most notably with running his own college football show. So Georgia fans thankfully can still take in his content, but nothing will beat waking up every Saturday morning during the season and watching Pollack talk football on the biggest stage.

Pollack however doesn’t seem like he misses working for ESPN, so maybe being let go was the best thing that could’ve happened to him.
