Love him or hate him, Diego Pavia has been one of the most polarizing and captivating college football players for the last several years. After starring at New Mexico State for Jerry Kill, they came together to help be difference-makers in Nashville for Clark Lea's Vanderbilt Commodores. Two years into their Nashvillian tenures, Vanderbilt is effectively one win away from the College Football Playoff.
Of course, this is Pavia's last season of college football. He has been playing in this sport long enough to be a doctor or Cam "Black Smoke" Rising. Either way, Pavia's leadership and tenacity have made him a beloved figured in SEC and college football lore. Unfortunately, he is putting forth no shame when it comes to trying to flip Georgia Bulldogs five-star quarterback commit Jared Curtis for 2026.
Curtis has been committed to Georgia since this summer, but grew up around the corner in Nashville.
Diego Pavia does not beat around the bush in Jared Curtis recruitment
Here is what Pavia had to say after the dominant win over rival Kentucky about the talented five-star.
"I think Jared [Curtis] is, you know, the next big thing here. And so I hope to keep him here in Nashville. I think he's a talent. When I watched him, his arm is crazy. Reminds me kind of like [Patrick] Mahomes and stuff. So I'd love to come back to watch Blaze [Berlowitz] and then watch him."
This may not be a violation, but how would you like if it another player was talking about your commit?

While there have been rumors circulating that Curtis may, in fact, flip to Vanderbilt in the 11th hour from Georgia, this has to be one of those believe it when you see it sort of things. If Curtis were to stick to his Georgia commitment, he would not see the field right away. Gunner Stockton will be back for one more year and Ryan Puglisi is waiting in the wing. Would he play right away over in Vanderbilt?
Well, Pavia did mention his past and current teammate by name in one Blaze Berlowitz in the remark.
What are the chances of Jared Curtis actually flipping to Vanderbilt?
At this stage of the game, Georgia fans should take this all in stride. If Curtis decides to honor his commitment and come to Athens, that would be wonderful. Oh, he will not start right away, and probably will not play very much for his first year or so with the program... If playing time is priority No. 1 for him, he should go to Vanderbilt. He might be used to being a big fish in a small pond anyway...
What is concerning about Pavia's comments is these postgame press conferences should not be the arena to do this in. It feels so very beneath a team that is 9-2 and vying for an at-large berth in the College Football Playoff. Vanderbilt may get boxed out by other quality two-loss teams, but the Commodores will be right there at the cut line when all is said and done. Will the be a top-10 seed?
Overall, Curtis coming to Georgia is no longer a sure thing. Tom Loy of 247Sports expects for him to flip to Vanderbilt in the final minutes in the lead-up to National Signing Day. Georgia had something similar happen to it two years ago when Dylan Raiola decommitted in mid-December to go to his father's alma mater of Nebraska. This was in part because Carson Beck announced he was returning.
With Stockton having one more year of eligibility, one would expect for history to repeat itself here.
