Now that Georgia has officially taken care of their business against Mississippi State, they can turn their full attention on the Texas Longhorns. Texas will come to Athens next week for Georgia's SEC finale in what will be one of the biggest games of Georgia's season.
These two teams faced off twice last season, and Georgia got the better of the Longhorns in both matchups. While that will give Georgia a lot of confidence entering this matchup, it will also give a lot of motivation to Texas as they look to get their revenge.
Both Georgia and Texas are playing the best football of their seasons entering this matchup, but Vegas is still giving UGA a clear edge as they named the Bulldogs a 5.5 point favorite in their opening spread.
Georgia football vs Texas opening spread heavily favors Bulldogs
Texas had a very difficult start to their season this year. They lost their week one showdown against Ohio State before rattling off three uninspiring wins agaisnt bad teams. Texas then lost to Florida and it was after this loss that everyone finally counted Texas out. But the Longhorns have now won four straight and look more than capable of upsetting Georgia on Saturday.
But Georgia is on a five game win streak and just played the best game of their season against Mississippi State. This was the first time Georgia played a full 60 minutes this season, so it isn't surprising that UGA looked like one of the best teams in the country. And that very well might be the reason why Georgia is close to a touchdown favorite against Texas.
It will be interesting to see if this line moves at all this week, but Vegas clearly is very high on Georgia's chances to win this game. And it's Georgia's dominant win over Mississippi State that likely explains this large of a spread.
