There was a lot of nervous energy for Georgia entering their matchup with Mississippi State on Saturday. Georgia had played down to their competition all season and they were only favored by 9.5 points, and with a big game coming up against Texas next week this was the perfect spot for UGA to fall victim to a trap game.
But the exact opposite happened as Georgia dominated Mississippi State all game long en route to their 41-21victory.
Georgia proved a lot of people wrong during this victory. Most college football fans beleived that Georgia would win, but they didn't think it would come easy. Leading the charge in that narrative was ESPN and their College GameDay crew, but Georgia proved them all wrong in the best way possible.
Georgia proves ESPN wrong in win over Mississippi State
During GameDay's pregame show Saturday morning, the crew talked in great length about how much they expected Georgia to struggle. In fact, the entire crew predicted that Mississippi State would cover the 9.5 point spread and Desmond Howard went as far as to say that Georgia would lose this game. But they couldn't have been more wrong.
Mississippi State did start fast and took an early 7-0 lead. This quick score made it seem like Georgia was going to be in for another tight game, but they didn't let that happen this week. Georgia scored 24 unanswered points to finish the half with a commanding 17 point lead.
The second half was much of the same as Georgia scored two quick touchdowns to take a 38-7 lead. Mississippi State found some success late in the game, but that came against Georgia's backups when the game was already over.
So Georgia did exactly what they were supposed to do and handled their business against a struggling program. This win also keeps Georgia in the hunt to win the SEC and make the College Football Playoff. But potentially the greatest outcome from this game was that Georgia proved everyone at ESPN wrong.
