Head coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have had their fair share of success on the recruiting trail. But one of their targets has officially slipped away from them, into the hands of none other than Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian.

Four-star tight end Brock Williams officially committed to the Longhorns, after he had previously been linked to Georgia as his No. 1 option earlier in his recruiting process. This is a huge loss for Georgia, as Williams was one of the top prospects remaining in the 2027 recruiting class.

According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-4, 215-pound prospect out of Libertyville High School (Libertyville, Illinois) was listed as the No. 4 tight end in the nation for his respective class. He was also listed by the network as the No. 5 overall prospect in the state of Illinois and the 95th-ranked overall prospect for his class in the nation.

During his junior year, his versatility was on full display as he also made good on the stat sheet, tallying 44 receptions for 596 yards and 11 touchdowns. He held offers from a number of prestigious programs outside of Georgia and Texas. Those included Florida, Duke, Florida State, Illinois, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU , Miami and Ole Miss.

On top of how well the Dawgs recruited Williams and the historical success Georgia has had recruiting, especially at the tight end position, this comes as a bit of a shock. Clearly, Sark and company really did just have that much of an edge. And it is worth noting just how much work Texas did to land him, as well as the strong relationship the Longhorns formed with Williams as a result of their efforts.

4-star TE Brock Williams committing to Texas over Georgia stings for Kirby Smart

Williams made several visits to Texas, including an unofficial visit on March 23. Shortly after his commitment, Williams discussed what ultimately led him to choose the Longhorns over all the other programs that had displayed so much interest.

"Relationships (were a major factor), but also the use of my position," Williams explained in an interview with Horns247. "That's huge, absolutely huge for me. And like I said, I'm a huge relationships guy. That's really what it came down to and where I felt most comfortable."

While this loss stings, let's not forget what the Bulldogs have accomplished on the recruiting trail in the 2027 cycle. And yes, specifically at that tight end position as well. Even though there's obviously nothing positive about losing Williams, and the fact it was unexpected, Georgia has already hit it big at the position for this class.

The Bulldogs landed one of their biggest gets in five-star tight end Jaxon Dollar less than a month ago. Dollar, who has played his high school football career at East Lincoln (Denver, NC), is currently listed as the No. 2 tight end in his class. He is also ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of North Carolina, and is the No. 32 player in the nation for 2027, all positions included.

On top of Dollar, the Bulldogs have made tracks in their 2027 group. He joins the fold right alongside offensive tackle Kelsey Adams, running back Kemon Spell, offensive tackle Ty Johnson, offensive lineman Abraham Eisenhower, running back Noah Parker, and linebacker Temorris Campbell Jr.
