ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit gives trio of awards to Georgia football
The praise for Georgia football continues to roll in after their impressive 30-15 win over No. 1 Texas. The Bulldogs are finally earning the respect from the country after this win, and man does it feel good after so many people doubted this team.
Kirk Herbstreit, a member of the ESPN College GameDay crew, did not make a prediction on the game because he was calling it on TV, but he has been making up for his teams' failures by giving out three awards to Georgia after this win.
Top Performing Teams
The first award handed out by Herbstreit to Georgia is his top performing team from week eight. This really shouldn't be a surprise at all after hitting the road and taking down the No. 1 team in the country. However, it was the way that did it and how dominant they were at times that likely gave Georgia the nod over others.
Tennessee is another team that he could've given the top spot to as well as Indiana who is looking very impressive, but it's the Bulldogs that are taking home the top spot this week.
Top Performing Coaches
Next up we have Herbstreit's top performing coaches, and again the obvious choice is Kirby Smart. Georgia was infinitely more prepared for this game than Texas was, and that is why the Bulldogs had a 23-0 halftime lead on Saturday. A lot of this was due to the dominance from Georgia's defense, so shoutout to Herbstreit for recognizing defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann as well.
Even more impressive than the start of the game was when Georgia's backs were against the wall when Texas cut into their lead and made it a 23-15 football game. Smart and his staff did not panic, and they manufactured a way for Georgia to survie that run from Texas and close out the game in dominant fashion once again.
Top Performing Players
Lastly we have linebackerJalon Walker, who was the second selection on Herbstreit's top performing players list.
It's interesting that Walker wasn't the top choice here considering he did something no college football player has done in the last 20 years, but being included on this list in general is an accomplishment on its own. Walker's eight tackles and three sackes were one of the biggest reasons why Texas couldn't get anything going on offense in the first half. Every tackle but one came in the first half, and a lot of these big plays directly helped Georgia's offense get going after their slow start.
Walker probably deserved the top spot on this list, but at the end of the day we can all just be happy that he had as good of a game as he did on Saturday.
