Gunner Stockton has proven everyone wrong so far this season. All offseason he was told how he wasn't good enough and wouldn't be able to lead Georgia to success this season, but so far that has not been the case.
Stockton has Georgia sitting at 6-1 and ranked No. 5 in the AP Poll. He also has been improving almost every week with his five touchdown performance agianst Ole Miss being the best game of his career up to this point. This dominant showing even skyrocketed Stockton into the Heisman Trophy conversation as well.
College football analysts have been backtracking from their previous statements about Stockton since Georgia's win over Ole Miss. And the latest analyst to sing Stockton's praises was ESPN's Booger McFarland who named Stockton one of the best QBs in the country.
“Gunner Stockton has turned into one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in America,” McFarland shared via Dawg Post.
Booger McFarland gives Gunner Stockton the recognition he deserves
Entering this season Stockton was nowhere near the conversation with the quarterbacks analysts thought would be the best in the country. He even had a few shaky performances to start the season that looked to be proving these analysts right.
But Stockton has been on fire recently, and there is no greater example than his dominant showing against Ole Miss the last time he took the field. This performance finally turned all of Stockton's doubters into believers as he is finally entered the same conversation with the other top quarterbacks in the country.
But all it will take is one bad game from Stockton for these same analysts to slander him again. So he needs to make sure that he continues to play at a high level if he wants to remain in the good graces of the media.
But does Stockton even care? He seems like the type of player who doesn't care what anyone outside of Athens has to say as long as Georgia keeps winning. But it goes without saying that UGA needs him to continue playing at a Heisman level if they are going to make a run at an SEC title, and that begins this weekend against Florida in Jacksonville.
