Georgia is flying high after beating Oklahoma by 28 points last week. They are 4-0 and the No. 2 team in the country, but even after this impressive win ESPN still came away thinking they have a worse chance to beat two teams left on their schedule.
Heading into Week 4 ESPN gave Georgia a 58.4 percent chance to beat Alabama, but after this past weekend that dropped to 54.9 percent. Georgia's odds to beat Florida also fell a similar amount as it was at 82.9 percent bot now sits at 79.8 percent.
ESPN still thinks Georgia will win both of these games, but they are less confident than they once were.
Alabama and Florida are Georgia's two most likely losses
Alabama and Florida are the two highest ranked teams left on Georgia's schedule, and so far this season they have looked the part as a real threat to beat UGA.
Florida so far has arguably looked like Georgia's biggest competition after they just blew Ole Miss out this past weekend. Florida also has the No. 2 scoring offense in the country, so if Georgia's defense doesn't show up against the Gators it could be a long game.
Alabama is also off to a great start as well. They don't have as impressive of a win as Florida does, but quarterback Keelon Russell looks like the real deal and could be a big problem for Georgia next week.
If Georgia can survive these two tests then they likely will be a in a prime position to make the SEC Championship game and earn a high seed in the College Football Playoff. ESPN however is starting to love both of their chances against Georgia more and more, but for now UGA is still predicted to win both games.
ESPN's odds predict an easy path for Georgia to make the College Football Playoff
Alabama is the only game that ESPN thinks could realistically go either way. They did move their odds in Florida's favor a bit after this past weekend too, but a near 80 percent chance for Georgia to win still points to their belief in the Bulldogs.
In order for Georgia to feel good about making the College Football Playoff they need to finish 10-2. Thankfully ESPN gives Georgia a great chance at accomplishing that.
Georgia has six other games on their schedule (excluding Alabama and Florida), and ESPN has them heavily favored in them all. A road game at Ole Miss is probably the only other game fans have circled on their schedule as a potential loss, but ESPN still gives them an 80.7 percent chance to win.
In three of Georgia's five other games ESPN gives Georgia over a 90 percent chance to win. This includes their home game against Missouri who is still a top 25 team in the country along with their next matchup against Vanderbilt and their season finale against Georgia Tech.
As long as Georgia handles their business against the five teams everyone thinks they should beat they should make the CFP. That would mean they only need to go 1-2 against Alabama, Florida and Ole Miss, and looking at ESPN's odds they think they will do even better than that.
Georgia's goals are far greater than just making the playoff, but the first step in winning a national championship is getting into the playoff and ESPN loves their chances to get there.
