Whether Georgia fans want to admit it or not, Florida is a team that is more than capable of beating them this year. The last time it felt like Florida could realistically beat Georgia was in 2020 which just so happened to be the last time the Gators actually beat Georgia, but this year feels like the first time Florida could seriously challenge UGA since their last win six years ago.
Since Kirby Smart's took over Georgia they are 8-2 against Florida. This includes winning each of the last five matchups when they were heavily favored to do so. That game in 2020 was the last time Florida was predicted to beat Georgia and it was also coincidentally the last time the Gators were relevant on the national stage as well.
Since then the rivalry has been all Georgia. The Bulldogs have won every game since 2021 while also winning three SEC titles and two national championships. Florida on the other hand has fired two head coaches in that time span.
Fast forward to 2026 and Florida is a serious threat to beat Georgia for the first time since 2020. Even though the Gators weren't ranked to start the season they have flown into the top 10 of this week's AP Poll after a perfect 4-0 start and dominant victory over Ole Miss this weekend.
Georgia is 4-0 and still ranked a handful of spots higher at No. 2, and if the spread was released today they'd probably still be favored. They wouldn't be favored by much though, and as of now it wouldn't be surprising if Florida ultimately beat Georgia when they play on October 31.
Florida's offense has propelled them to best start in recent history
A big reason why Florida is off to such a great start this season is because of their offense. The Gators are actually No. 2 in the country in scoring as they've averaged a whopping 53.5 points per game this season.
New quarterback Aaron Philo is a big reason for this success as he already has 917 passing yards and seven touchdowns through four games. He also has three rushing touchdowns to his name this season as well.
Star running back Jadan Baugh might be the best running back in the country. Through four games he already has 600 yards and 11 touchdowns on just 83 carries.
Georgia's offense is just as strong though. The Bulldogs actually have the No. 1 scoring offense in the country as they are just ahead of Florida averaging 54.8 points per game. The difference in this game could be their defenses though as Georgia is No. 18 in the country after allowing 13.3 points per game while Florida is No. 69 after giving up 22.8 points per game.
Both teams have a couple tests in front of them before they play at the end of October. Florida has a road matchup at No. 25 Missouri this week along with a road tilt at No. 1 Texas right before they play Georgia. The Bulldogs also have a tough test at No. 7 Alabama before playing Florida as well.
We will know a lot more about both teams by the time they play on October 31, but as of now this is a game where it wouldn't be surprising if Florida won and that hasn't been the case since 2020.
