Georgia football has some very challenging games left on their schedule. Their win against Tennessee last weekend marked a significant moment this year because the Volunteers may have been UGA’s most difficult game on their entire schedule, but now that Georgia has gotten past them the Bulldogs are full steam ahead as they are in the middle of their bye week.

ESPN recently updated their Football Power Index (FPI) as well as the percent chance that Georgia has at winning each game this season, and the Bulldogs are favored in all of their remaining nine games. But the FPI did decrease Georgia’s chances at beating Mississippi State later this season.

ESPN has more confidence in Mississippi State

Mississippi State so far this season is the the surprise team in the SEC. MSU finished near the bottom of the SEC standings last season, and they were expected to again this year as well. But Mississippi State is off to a 3-0 start which includes a win over a ranked Arizona State team and a 63-0 drubbing of Alcorn State.

Georgia had a stellar performance on Saturday as well after beating Tennessee on the road, but even after that result ESPN decreased their chances of beating Mississippi State this year. To be fair, UGA still has an 82.7 percent chance to beat Mississippi State, but that did fall from 83.8 percent.

Georgia travels to Mississippi State on Nov. 8, so UGA will learn a lot more about this MSU team before then. But this is a team that could sneak up on Georgia even if they aren’t one of their most difficult games left on their schedule.

Georgia’s next game however could be the most difficult on their schedule as No. 14 Alabama comes to town next Saturday. So UGA by no means should be worried about Mississippi State right now, but they could be a problem for the Bulldogs later this season.
