Vegas oddsmakers are favoring Georgia by a couple points against Alabama this coming weekend. ESPN however completely disagrees as they give the slight edge to Alabama instead.
ESPN currently gives Alabama a 52.6 percent chance of beating Georgia next Saturday. This means they don’t think Alabama is that big of a favorite, but they disagree with Vegas oddsmakers who believe Georgia is the favorite in this matchup.
ESPN doesn’t think Georgia will beat Alabama
Georgia and Alabama will play in what could be one of the biggest games of the college football season next Saturday. Alabama is the home team who is looking for revenge after Georgia beat them in the 2025 SEC Championship game, but Georgia is hoping for some revenge of their own since the Tide beat them in Athens during the regular season last year.
The consensus among the sportsbooks is that Georgia is a small favorite over Alabama. DraftKings Sportsbook has Georgia favored by 2.5 points which is the most common spread, but some sportsbooks have them only favored by 1.5. ESPN however is the only place favoring Alabama.
In reality these odds aren’t that different. ESPN thinks Alabama should be favored by a couple points and Vegas thinks Georgia is the small favorite, but in the grand scheme these are similar predictions since they both think this game is a coin flip. It is a bit strange though for every Sportsbook to name Georgia the favorite just for ESPN to completely disagree.
ESPN also has had Georgia favored over Alabama all season, but after this past weekend that flipped for the first time all year even though Georgia beat Vanderbilt by 24 points.
What’s at stake when Alabama and Georgia play?
The stakes couldn’t be any higher when Georgia and Alabama play next weekend. The Bulldogs are 5-0 and the No. 2 team in the country while Alabama is also 5-0 and the No. 7 ranked team. Georgia will stay put at No. 2 in this week’s AP Poll, but there’s a chance Alabama could move up when the new AP Poll is released.
Either way this will be a top 10 showdown and the biggest game of the weekend. ESPN’s College GameDay will be in Tuscaloosa as well to hype up this game even more.
The winner of this matchup will have a great chance to make the SEC Championship game. Texas is the only other team in the top tier of SEC contenders with Alabama and Georgia, but neither UGA or the Tide play Texas during the regular season. So the winner of this game will not only have the edge over the loser to make it to Atlanta, but their odds to make it there will significantly increase. The loser will probably need the winner to lose two games later in the year if they want to play for an SEC title which is unlikely to happen.
This game also has major College Football Playoff implications as well. The winner would have an extremely high chance to make the playoff with the loser still having some work to do. The loser will still have a good chance to make the playoff too, but their path likely takes them to a worse seed with a small chance at earning one of the four first round byes.
It doesn’t get much bigger than Georgia vs Alabama in college football. These two teams have played some instant classics over the last decade, and there’s no reason why this game won’t be as well.
Kickoff between Alabama and Georgia is scheduled for 7:30 pm EST on Saturday, Oct. 10.
