Georgia has been a big favorite in every game they've played so far this season. Their next matchup against Alabama is completely different though, in fact the odds Vegas has set could end up hurting Georgia in the long run.
Georgia is favored by just a couple points in this game. Alabama may feel like they deserve to be the favorite especially as the home team, so Georgia being the favorite could end up giving Alabama even more motivation to win this game than they already have.
Georgia football vs Alabama early odds
Georgia is a 2.5 point favorite over Alabama, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. The over-under for this game is set at 56.5 points as well.
ESPN's matchup predictor however disagrees with Vegas as they favor Alabama. They only give Georgia a 47.3 percent chance to win this game and believe Alabama should be a small favorite instead of Georgia.
Alabama doesn't need more motivation
Teams can find motivation from so many different sources. Being the underdog is one thing that can motivate a team, and for Alabama that could end up being the biggest source of motivation heading into this game.
The Crimson Tide are a top 10 team in the country and are 5-0. They also have beat some good teams including previously undefeated Mississippi State on the road this past weekend and a currently ranked Kentucky team. Alabama's resume is a bit stronger than Georgia's based on the level of competition they've played so far this season, so Alabama could find extra motivation from the fact that they are the underdog.
Alabama already has a lot of motivation heading into this game because they want revenge after Georgia beat them in the SEC Championship game last season. That is already a good enough reason to be motivated to win a game, but Alabama unfortunately will be able to play the underdog card this week too.
Georgia has plenty of reasons to want to beat Alabama
Alabama isn't the only team with a lot of motivating factors heading into this game because Georgia has a lot of sources they can draw from as well. In the grand scheme of things they don't need to find motivation in unique ways for a game like this because the opportunity for a marquee win at a place like Alabama should be enough to motivate everyone in Georgia's locker room.
Georgia however also has revenge on their mind as well after Alabama beat them in Athens during the regular season last year. Kirby Smart is also just 2-7 against Alabama during his time as Georgia's head coach which includes a 1-2 record since Kalen DeBoer became the Tide's head coach. Georgia also haven't beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa since 2007 which is the last time they have beat them in the regular season as well.
Georgia and Alabama should both be extremely motivated to win this game on Saturday. The odds set by Vegas though do give Alabama an extra source of motivation that Georgia won't have, but Kirby Smart will have his squad ready to play regardless of what Vegas or anyone else says.
Game odds adjust periodically and are subject to change.
