You would think Georgia lost against Austin Peay with all the complaints from UGA fans after the game. Just because it wasn't a blowout like the 45-7 win over Marshall doesn't mean there's cause for worry about Tennessee this Saturday.
Did Gunner Stockton throw any interceptions? No. Did he get sacked? No. Were the Bulldogs supposed to pound the Governors like Ohio State annihilated Grambling (70-0)? It appears that was the expectation, given all the grumbling in the fanbase. But where's the confidence in the brilliance of Coach Kirby Smart?
Tune up games are for tuning up
Georgia fans need to chill out and recognize that a nonconference game is a way to work out the kinks in levels of the game, from offense and defense, to special teams and goal line play. And, the Bulldogs won the game, so take the win. Could it be that Mike Bobo was trying out possible combinations and play series as a way to prepare for the Volunteers? Have Georgia fans considered that expectations can be managed by a great coaching staff?
The Bulldogs will need to be at their best in the season by week three, especially on the road in Neyland Stadium, surrounded by headache-enducing orange and white fans. But try and remember that, just like investment products, past performance is no guarantee what will happen in the future. An average game against an FCS team doesn't mean anything in relation to rising to the level of competition against a hated rivalry team like Tennessee.
So, Bulldog fans, take heart that the coach that has won back-to-back national championships can instill the passion and energy into his team in preparation for a big road game. The running game is good, the defense is stout, and Bulldog Nation should be sending out positive vibes into the football universe, for fruition on Saturday in Knoxville.
