Florida football players just can't stop talking about Georgia. The Gators had their chance to take part in the 2025 SEC Media Days on Wednesday, and one of the topics most discussed by the Florida players in attendance was how they "almost" beat Georgia last season.
“We almost had them (Georgia). I feel like we almost had them,” Florida defensive lineman Caleb Banks said via on3.com.
The leader of the Florida football team this fall is quarterback DJ Lagway. He projects to be one of the top quarterbacks in the entire country this season, but even he can't shake the feeling of almost beating Georgia last year.
“You know, it gives me a lot of confidence that, you know, it doesn’t matter who really is out there. You know, it’s all about us,” Lagway shared about Florida's loss to Georgia. “It’s all about how we prepare and how we go out there and treat the week.”
Florida gained a lot of confidence after losing to Georgia last season
Georgia took down Florida last season 34-20. However, the game was much closer than the final score indicates.
Florida actually looked like the better team when the game first began. Lagway and the Florida offense were having their way with Georgia's defense, and UGA couldn't get anything going on offense. The Gators even had a 13-6 lead at halftime.
The turning point in this game however was when Lagway went down with an injury that kept him out for the rest of the game. That injury made things a whole lot easier for Georgia on defense, and once they started stringing some stops together the Bulldogs offense woke up.
There is some truth to these statements from Florida because they did play Georgia really well, especially in the first half before the injury to Lagway. But it is quite funny to see them be so proud of "almost" beating Georgia like that actually means anything.
Georgia's win last season was their fourth in a row against the Gators. The Bulldogs have also won seven of the last eight meetings against Florida as well. Georgia and Florida will meet again this season on Nov. 1 where UGA will look to destroy any confidence Florida has and win for the fifth year in a row.
