Former 5-star Talyn Taylor is proving to be the alpha Georgia’s WR room needs

Talyn Taylor may be one of Georgia’s most important players this season. He is a former five-star wide receiver who’s entering his second year with the program, and he is expected to fill the large void left after six of Georgia’s top seven pass catchers from last season departed for the NFL. Thankfully word out of fall camp is that he is proving to be the alpha of the wide receiver room that Georgia needs him to be.

Taylor raised a lot of eyebrows during the spring which was the first time he stepped into his larger role. That apparently has continued into the fall as he is showing glimpses of being the No. 1 wide receiver Georgia recruited him out of high school to be.

Talyn Taylor could quickly become Gunner Stockton’s top WR

So far during fall camp Georgia’s receivers have reportedly been struggling when they go against UGA’s strong secondary. Taylor however is one of their receivers who hasn’t been struggling and Gunner Stockton has to love seeing that.

Last season Stockton’s go-to playmaker out wide was Zachariah Branch. In fact, Stockton loved him so much that Branch set the single season receptions record last year. Someone will have to replace that production this season and it more than likely will take a few players to do so, but Taylor appears to be the guy leading the charge so far.

Taylor has the ability to make big plays from short passes just like Branch did, but he also possesses the speed to get past the defense and make the big play over the top as well. That is something Georgia was missing last year that Kirby Smart has been emphasizing needs to improve this offseason, and Taylor could be the key for Georgia to finally have a legit deep threat again.

Talyn Taylor must overcome minor setback from freshman season

Taylor wasn’t used much during his freshman season last year, but he was one play away from helping Georgia beat Alabama during the regular season. Stockton threw a perfect deep ball to him that hit him in his hands, but he dropped what likely would’ve been an easy touchdown.

Who knows how the game would’ve played out had he caught that pass and scored, but it could’ve been the difference in what was ultimately a three point loss.

Taylor finished the 2025 season only making two catches for 28 yards. His limited production last year along with this critical drop may linger in his head as he looks to become the Bulldogs’ top wide receiver this year. He may need to see himself prove it on the field before he can let that drop go, but he should have ample opportunities to prove himself once the season begins.

So far throughout fall camp though he has shown that he can be the elite receiver his five-star rating out of high school expected him to be, all that’s left is to put it all together once the season begins.
