Georgia is entering the 2026 college football season as one of the favorites to win the SEC. They also have the sixth-best odds to win a National Championship this season as well.
This would indicate that Georgia once again has a great team this year, but there is always room for improvement. One area specifically that needs to see improvement is Georgia's defensive front as they struggled getting to the quarterback all season long last year.
Unfortunately for Georgia they had Damon Wilson on their roster two years ago and he would be the perfect player to fix their issues rushing the quarterback. Wilson has since transferred to Miami and has been named to the preseason All-ACC First Team and all Georgia can do is watch from afar.

There are a handful of transfers that Georgia probably wishes never left Athens. Wilson has to be at the top of that list.
He left Georgia after the 2024 season when he was expected to be a starter in 2025. He made the move to Missouri where he racked up a whopping nine sacks during the 2025 season.
Wilson decided to enter the Transfer Portal again this offseason and he now finds himself in Miami. Who knows what kind of year he will have this season, but expectations are clearly sky high for him. He will be a big piece for the Hurricanes on a team that hopes to make a deep playoff run again, and if they do Georgia will have to sit and watch that unfold wondering how much better they'd be with him on their team.
Miami seems to love former Bulldogs who are wrapped up in drama
For the second year in a row Miami will have a former Bulldog on their roster that was wrapped up in a lot of drama when they left Georgia. Last year it was Carson Beck and this year it is Wilson.
There was no bad blood between Wilson and Georgia when he originally transferred to Missouri. Sure everyone in Athens was sad to see him go, but that's just the name of the game in college football nowadays. But after leaving Georgia he was accused of not paying back a portion of his NIL deal from Georgia as a buyout, and then a court battle ensued.
There still hasn't been a final court ruling yet, but Wilson is claiming he doesn't owe Georgia any money. Georgia however is arguing that he owes them over $500,000.
This court battle has no impact on the upcoming season though. It also shouldn't have an impact on Georgia's wish that he never left Athens in the first place. If he didn't leave Georgia then none of this would've ever happened, and UGA would be able to benefit from one of the best EDGE rushers being on their team.
Unfortunately that is not the case, and now Georgia has to hope someone else breaks through this season while they watch Wilson likely have another monster year.
