Another Sunday means more college football head coaches are being fired across the country. Florida made the biggest headline as they parted ways with Billy Napier after a 3-4 start this season. But the Gators weren’t the only program to fire their head coach as Colorado State moved on from head coach Jay Norvell as well.
It’s obvious why Florida firing Napier matters to Georgia, but Colorado State moving on from their head coach on the other hand seems like it has zero connection to UGA. And while that is the case at first glance, Colorado State is expected to name a former Georgia coach as their interim head coach for the rest of the season.
Current expectation is defensive coordinator Tyson Summers will be named interim, sources tell @On3sports. https://t.co/RkgG9PGiDz

Former Georgia assistant Tyson Summers expected to be named Colorado State's interim head coach
According to On3's Pete Nakos, Colorado State is expected to name current Defensive Coordinator Tyson Summers as their interim head coach for the rest of the season.
Summers has had a long career that has taken him to countless programs throughout the country, but he has made two stops at Georgia. His first stint at Georgia came in 2005 when he spent one season as a Graduate Assistant. After that he made stops at five other programs before returning to Georgia in 2018 as a defensive quality control coach under Kirby Smart.
2022 saw Summers catch his first big break as he was named a Defensive Coordinator for the first time of his career with Western Kentucky. He spent three season in that role before making the move to Colorado State this offseason where he is in his first season as their Defensive Coordinator.
Summers is originally from the state of Georgia, but he played college football at Presbyterian College. He then returned to his alma mater, Tift County High School, in Georgia where he began his coaching career after college.
Colorado State is 2-5 so far this season, but Summers will look to turn that around over their final five games this season. And who knows, if he does a good enough job maybe he will be their next head coach in 2026.
