Former Georgia football commit flips to UGA’s rival
Georgia football has had a lot of positive developments on the recruiting trail the last few weeks. However, they have had a few moments where things didn’t go their way as well.
One of those moments was when three-star defensive lineman Stephon Shivers decommitted from Georgia on Nov. 8. Shivers may have been one of the lowest ranked commits in Georgia’s 2025 recruiting class, but a player decommitting from the program is still something you don’t want to see.
Fast forward just a couple weeks and Shivers has already found his new home in the SEC.
Stephon Shivers commits to Florida
After decommitting from Georgia two weeks ago, Shivers immediately shifted his focus on Florida. Shivers took an official visit to Florida one week after his decommitment, then just a couple days after that a prediction for him to commit to the Gators was logged on 247Sports.
Finally, on Nov. 18 he made it official and committed to Florida.
Usually it is really sad to see a former Georgia commit flip to Florida, but this time however doesn’t feel that way. Shivers is a solid player, but Georgia already has multiple other defensive lineman committed to their class that are ranked higher than Shivers. There are even a few more recruits out there that are also ranked higher that could be committing to Georgia very soon.
So this loss for Georgia really doesn’t hurt the Bulldogs in the long run.
It will be interesting to watch Georgia play Shivers the next few years, but it is unlikely that there is any bad blood between him and Kirby Smart.
So hopefully at the end of the day, this move works out for both parties. Georgia fans however will obviously hope that it works out for the Bulldogs more though.
