This is an interesting move.

Georgia football surprisingly lost a lot of quarterbacks to the transfer portal this offseason. The biggest loss was clearly when Carson Beck made the move to Miami (FL), but he was not the only Georgia QB to enter the portal.

The second Georgia quarterback to enter the portal was Jaden Rashada, who Georgia fans might be a little less familiar with. Rashada spent the 2024 season with Georgia which was his only year with the program. Before his time at Georgia, Rashada spent his freshman season at Arizona State where he impressed a lot of people in his one season.

Rashada did not play for Georgia this season, which isn’t a surprise considering Beck returned for the 2024 season. But it was a little shocking to see him enter the transfer portal because he could have been a serious contender to win the starting job heading into next season. That however won’t be happening since Rashada is looking for a new program.

And that’s where things get interesting because Rashada is still looking for a new program even though he entered the portal on Jan. 5. So why hasn’t he found a landing spot yet?

Jaden Rashada is going the unconventional route in the portal

Usually a player wants to find their new program as quickly as possible once they enter the transfer portal. This is the case for many reasons, but the biggest reason is because of all the competition they face in the portal. So many players enter the portal and they’re all looking to potentially transfer to the same programs, so if a player takes longer to make their decision they theoretically will have less options available to them.

So that is why it is surprising that Pete Nakos with On3 reported that Rashada is choosing to work with a trainer this spring instead of transferring to a new program.

Rashada is a good enough player where many schools will still recruit him out of the portal extremely hard, but it’s hard to not imagine that he is missing out on some opportunities because of this decision. It will be interesting to see where Rashada ends up and if this decision hurts him or not, but there’s a good chance he ends up at a major program and there’s even a chance that program is in the SEC.
