Former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is impacting Georgia football’s offseason
The head coaching carousel has already begun this year in college football as a few head coaches have already been fired before postseason play has even begun. And one of those opening is at North Carolina after Mack Beown was let go about a week ago.
Whenever a power four head coach is fired, there is always a chance that it impacts Georgia football because their assistants always seem to be some of the top candidates for these openings. And that was the case with North Carolina as defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann was named as a top candidate for the job.
However, a new name has just been released to the public as someone who has interviewed for this position, and not only is this very surprising, but it could really impact what Schumann ends up doing this offseason.
Bill Belichick interviews for UNC job
That’s right, former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who is one of the greatest head coaches of all time, has reportedly interviewed for the opening at North Carolina.
This took the entire football world by surprise for many reasons. For starters, Belichick just left New England after the 2023 season and he is in his 70s, so everyone thought this was the end of his coaching career. On top of that, Belichick has never coached at the college football level, even as an assistant, so him having even a little interest in coaching at the college level is shocking.
No one really knows how serious Belichick is about this job, but if he ends up wanting to become the North Carolina head coach it is hard to imagine the Tar Heels not selecting him. This means Schumann either has to look elsewhere for a head coaching gig or just stay put at Georgia.
This will be one of the biggest stories to follow this offseason, and one that directly impacts Georgia, so UGA fans will want to keep a close eye on this one as more news comes out.
