The Georgia Bulldogs have had their fair share of tough battles this season. The Bulldogs have played four ranked teams so far this season and have beat three of them. Georgia is also undefeated against top 10 teams this season and currently hold a 12-game winning streak at home against top 10 teams which is one win shy from setting an NCAA record.
As of now, the Bulldogs still have one more ranked opponent on their schedule in Georgia Tech. However, Sports Illustrated writer Alex Weber believes the Yellow Jackets are one of the most overrated teams in all of college football.
Georgia Tech's flawed yet hopeful season
Weber listed Georgia Tech as one of three most overrated teams in the country. The other two teams to make his list were Notre Dame and Michigan. Weber wrote that Georgia Tech "is putting the committee to the test as a one-loss team without much of a resume to speak of, considering their best win so far came against, maybe, Clemson or Duke."
Weber's right, the only ranked win Georgia Tech has this season was against Clemson in week three, and now Clemson is no longer ranked. Looking at the rankings now, the Yellow Jackets do not have a single ranked win.
However, no one deny the success they have had. Haynes King is still putting up numbers that could land him in Heisman conversations. King has thrown the ball for 2,259 and 10 touchdowns along with 807 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground. His ability to run the ball makes him one of the most versatile quarterbacks in the country, but he has yet to face a real test this season.
The Yellow Jackets' single loss on the season came to NC State. For reference, that team is 5-5 on the season and only put up seven points against both Notre Dame and Miami. NC State however put up 48 points against Georgia Tech. If the Yellow Jackets have that type of showing against Georgia in two weeks, then this game should be a walk in the park for the Bulldogs.
Though listed as overrated, do not discount Georgia Tech. The Jackets took Georgia to eight overtimes last season and had several opportunities to beat the Bulldogs. King gave Georgia fits with his ability to run and pass. Georgia needs to be weary of Georgia Tech, but they still aren't quite the toughest challenge Georgia has faced this season.
