Georgia football is fresh off beating Texas in the SEC Championship game 22-19. But now that the SEC season is officially over, it is time for Georgia to turn their full attention on the College Football Playoff.
On Sunday, Georgia learned that they earned the 2-seed in the upcoming CFP, which gives them the coveted first round bye. But even though Georgia's first game is nearly a month from now, a lot of the information surrounding this game has already been released.
Game time
Georgia's opening round game in the College Football Playoff will be on Jan. 1 at 8:45 pm EST.
Location
As the SEC Champion, Georgia will play their quarterfinal matchup at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, LA.
TV Network
This game will be aired on ESPN and streamed on the WatchESPN app as well. Unfortunately we do not know who will be calling this game at this time, but it likely will be one of the premier TV crews that Georgia fans are used to hearing on TV.
Who will Georgia's opponent be?
The Bulldogs still have a fair amount of time they need to wait before they find out who they will play in this game. They however do know that they will play the winner of the first round game featuring 7-seed Notre Dame and 10-seed Indiana.
This game will be one that Georgia fans will want to play close attention to, because both teams finished the year at 11-1 and are more than capable of knocking Georgia off in New Orleans. This first round game will take place on Dec. 20 at 8:00 pm EST. The Irish have the advantage as the home team, and they are also the 7.5 point favorite over Indiana according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
So while Georgia waits for their playoff game to get here, they can focus on many other things. Kirby Smart and his staff can hit the recruiting trail both in the high school ranks and in the transfer portal. Georgia can also use this extra time off to rest up and get healthier as well, which they desperately need.
