Georgia is in Omaha gearing up for their run at the College World Series. Head coach Wes Johnson however has been working hard this week building their roster for the 2027 season even with the CWS beginning this weekend.

With Transfer Portal season having already begun Johnson reportedly spent much of the day on Monday recruiting players he hope will be Georgia Bulldogs next season. One of those players he spoke with more than likely was Long Beach State pitcher Luke Howe who announced his commitment to Georgia on Thursday.

What will transfer pitcher Luke Howe bring to Georgia?

It's no secret that Georgia's weak point this season is their pitching. They have a lot of great arms, but their inconsistency has forced their offense to score lots of runs in order to win games.

Thankfully Georgia's offense has been up to the task, but everyone would love to see the Bulldogs' pitching staff improve next season. Adding Howe is Georgia's first step to making sure they do improve next year.

Howe just wrapped up his freshman season with Long Beach State, and what a season it was. Most of his appearances for Long Beach State were as a starter, and he ended the year with a 5-4 record and 5.04 ERA. He also struck out 67 batters in 85 innings pitched to go along with just 21 walks and only three home runs given up.

At the end of the season Howe was named the Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year which shows how much potential he brings to Georgia.

Georgia will lose two senior pitchers after this season and could potentially lose two more to the MLB draft as well, so it's clear that they needed to add some experienced arms. Howe will be the perfect player to come in and immediately compete for a spot in the starting rotation while also being able to come out of the bullpen if needed as well.

And the best part of all, he still has three years of eligibility remaining.

Wes Johnson is proving to be one of the best coaches in the country

Is there anything Johnson can't do? In just his third season as Georgia's head coach he already has the Bulldogs in the College World Series. Not only are they in the CWS but they are one of the favorites to win it all.

Johnson also led Georgia to the SEC regular season championship and their first conference tournament title in program history this year.

And now, just two days before Georgia takes the field against Texas at the College World Series, he is adding one of the best young pitchers out of the Transfer Portal.

Johnson has a really good thing going at Georgia right now. Whether they bring a National Championship home this year or not is one thing, but it's clear that he will have Georgia competing at a high level for many years to come.

The rest of the country better watch out, because Georgia baseball is officially back and it looks like they won't be going anywhere.
