As the college football world turns their calendars to June it is time for schools to really start focusing their recruiting efforts on the 2027 class. At this point the 2026 class has been wrapped up for months and rosters for the fall are pretty set in stone, but Kirby Smart once again decided to challenge the status quo.
He did so this time by earning a commitment from wide receiver Tre Shields from the 2026 class in what is one of the latest commitments in the history of Georgia recruiting.
NEWS: Georgia added another 11th-hour addition to its 2026 class in under-the-radar Flowery Branch receiver @treshields19 this weekend.

Tre Shields' unique journey to Georgia is as impressive as it gets
Shields has a long ways to go before he will be a regular contributor for Georgia. Why is that? Because he only started playing football one year ago.
That's right, Shields has only played football for one year and he already has done enough to impress Smart enough to be able to come play at Georgia.
That however isn't the only strange thing about this commitment because Shields will reportedly be joining the team on Monday to start working with them and getting ready for the 2026 season.
News doesn't get crazier than that, or so Georgia fans thought because Shields is actually just one of three commitments that UGA has received so far on Sunday.
Sunday turned into a historically great day for Georgia football recruiting
It isn't uncommon to earn two commitments in one day, but it is extremely uncommon to earn three. That however is exactly what Georgia just did on Sunday.
Georgia's two other commitments came from the 2027 class as wide receiver Taurean Rawlins and offensive tackle DJ Dotson both committed to Georgia. Both Rawlins and Dotson were in Athens on an official visit this weekend, so it's clear that they saw everything they needed to see to feel comfortable calling Georgia home for their careers.
These two commitments however were extra impressive because both players had multiple visits to other programs on the books throughout the month of June. Rawlins had plans to visit Ohio State and Indiana while Dotson has upcoming trips to LSU, Auburn and Ole Miss planned. They however will most likely not take those trips anymore thanks to the impressive work from Smart and his staff this weekend.
These three commits may not be the highest ranked recruits in the world, but at the end of the day that doesn't really matter. The only thing that does matter is that Smart thinks they are all good enough for Georgia, so fans should celebrate like crazy because it isn't too often that three players all commit to Georgia within the span of a few hours.
