Georgia and Kirby Smart add underrated commit out of Mario Cristobal's Miami backyard

Kirby Smart knows exactly what he is doing by landing this recruit out of hostile territory in Miami.

We can only hope that there is method to the madness. While the latest Georgia commit in three-star linebacker Temorris Campbell Jr. may not move the needle for some, it is important to know where he comes from. Campbell hails from Miami, a recruiting hotbed the rest of the college football world likes to harvest from. Once again, Mario Cristobal and his Hurricanes staff were asleep at the wheel here...

Campbell announced his commitment to Georgia on Wednesday morning, per Rivals' Chad Simmons.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Campbell is the No. 84 prospect from Florida, the No. 70 linebacker in the country, and the No. 842 overall recruit in the 2027 cycle. He had 19 offers coming in, but not one from the Hurricanes. This Glenn Schumann recruit is slated to visit Athens later this month on May 29. Campbell also has a scheduled visit with the Nebraska Cornhuskers on June 12.

Campbell may only be the seventh Georgia commit for its 2027 class, but this one tells another story.

Miami may come to regret letting Temorris Campbell Jr. commit to UGA

While Georgia needs to get its ducks in a row on the recruiting trail in short order, two things are starting to prove true here. The first is Georgia really only wants guys who want to be here. Georgia has shown a knack for developing players at all levels, no matter the amount of stars next to their name. The other thing that keeps popping up is Cristobal is simply not protecting his home turf at all.

In years past, whenever Miami is worthy of writing home about, the best players from South Florida usually stay home. This is a program that is definitely on the rise under one of their own in Cristobal. However, he is starting to develop a bit of a bad reputation for not sealing the deal with many local products. The fact Miami did not even offer Campbell just goes to show that the Canes are reckless.

While Georgia may be the best program that offered Campbell, others could soon follow and try to flip him in gravy-train fashion. This would also include Miami... However, Georgia has had success in recruiting this part of the country. UGA legends like Sony Michel and James Cook immediately come to mind. Campbell may play a different position, but he just so happens to be going to Linebacker U.

Overall, Smart and his staff have fully come to grips with the game changing. The wonderful world of NIL has not been as kind to the Dawgs as one would have expected. Until something major changes, Georgia will regularly get outbid by schools with deeper pockets for many four and five-star players' services. It is what it is, but we have to accept this. For now, Miami is starting to look a bit decadent.

If that proves to be the case, look for Georgia to take advatange of Miami not protecting its borders.
