The recruiting trail has not been kind to Kirby Smart and Georgia the last few weeks. Not long ago Georgia had three five-star commits and a top 10 recruiting class, but that has changed in a hurry.

Georgia now has the No. 31 recruiting class in the country after a string of decommitments the last couple weeks. But current offensive line commit Abram Eisenhower ended this tumultuous run with one simple message.

He recently sat down with On3 to discuss his status with Georgia, and when asked if his recruitment was shut down he immediately said that he is not letting any other schools recruit him.

“Oh yeah,” Eisenhower said via on3.com. “You make that decision, you gotta keep it.”

How bad were the last couple weeks for Georgia? Just a few days ago they lost their commitment from five-star defensive back Donte Wright who flipped to Miami. That unfortunately wasn’t the only loss in the secondary as four-star Jerry Outhouse flipped to UCLA a few days prior.

Outhouse is a top 100 recruit as well, so losing both of their commitments sent Georgia tumbling down the recruiting rankings. Eisenhower however gave Georgia a little momentum back by ending his recruitment and proclaiming that he is sticking with UGA no matter what.

And how good does that feel for Eisenhower? It’s safe to say he isn’t regretting that decision at all.

“It’s been a big weight lifted off my shoulders,” Eisenhower said. “Ever since I committed, we’ve been good communicating — not just about football, either.”

This announcement from Eisenhower doesn’t eliminate all of the negative headlines that have hit Georgia the last few weeks. In fact it kind of made losing Wright feel a little worse because he just announced himself that he is shutting down his recruitment after flipping to Miami.

But this announcement is still a positive development for Georgia who really needed to get some good news after the last few weeks.

So what’s next for Georgia? Official visit season.

The Bulldogs are beginning their official visit season a little earlier this year, but from now through the month of June they will bring in countless recruits on official visits as they look to build their recruiting class back up. This normally is the time when Georgia surges up the recruiting rankings, so fans should expect an onslaught of commitments once these visits start taking place.

Smart however needs to also remain diligent and keep recruiting the players already committed to Georgia. They’ve lost enough commits already, so they need to ensure they don’t lose more players when other schools undoubtedly are doing their best to flip them.

That is especially the case with Kemon Spell and Jaxon Dollar who are the two remaining five-star commits for Georgia.

This announcement from Eisenhower may seem small, but it is extremely important. Not only does it give Smart some confidence they won’t lose his commitment, but it gives them a little momentum heading into an extremely important stretch of recruiting.

And sometimes a little momentum is all that is needed for Georgia to start racking up commitments.
