Georgia baseball has been having one of their best seasons in recent history this year. All season long they have sat near the top of the SEC standings, and with two more series to play before the end of the regular season they were looking to win the regular season crown for the first time since 2008.

Saturday night they did just that as they clinched a share of the SEC regular season championship after defeating LSU 13-8.

Winning a championship is worthy of a massive celebration on its own, but this title helped make SEC history. According to Dawgs Central, this is the first time a school has won the SEC in football and baseball in the same school year since LSU did it in 2011-12.

Georgia baseball, football make SEC history together

Georgia fans have been spoiled when it comes to success on the football field. So while seeing them win back-to-back titles the last two years was extremely exciting, that is the expectation for them.

That however is not the case for the baseball team who hasn't won the regular season SEC Championship since 2008. But their victory over LSU Saturday night clinched a share of that title.

Now Georgia can celebrate because they are the first school since 2011-12 to win the SEC in football and baseball in the same school year.

Georgia still has some work to do because they do not want to share the title. Both Texas A&M and Texas could still tie Georgia atop the standings, but they would have to win their remaining games and Georgia would have to lose their final four games for that to happen. So all it takes is one more win in their next four games to clinch the SEC title outright.

Their first opportunity to do that comes Sunday afternoon in their series finale against LSU.

Also quick shoutout to the Georgia softball team who just took down No. 1 Oklahoma in the SEC Tournament as well.
