Georgia baseball is fresh off one of the most successful seasons in program history. Sure the Bulldogs came up short at the College World Series, but they won the SEC regular season and tournament championship to cement what was a really impressive season.
Now that Georgia has gotten a taste of success they will do whatever it takes to stay at the top of the college baseball world. In order to help accomplish that they need to recruit at a high level, and that is exactly what Wes Johnson is doing as the Bulldogs currently have the No. 1 Transfer Portal class in the country after an impressive Monday.
With this commitment, Georgia takes over the top spot on our Team Rankings.

For those wondering, this is how we calculate the team rankings:
(sliding scale):
Top & 2nd ranked = 100%
3 = 95%
4 = 85%
5 = 75%
6 = 35%
7 & 8 = 10%
9+ = 0 https://t.co/NLPolQWpUp pic.twitter.com/c3P5dBhBAz
Georgia's electric Monday propelled the Diamond Dawgs to No. 1 ranking
So what went down on Monday? Georgia added not one but two really impressive transfers to their team that will make an immediate impact the second they arrive on campus.
The first commitment came from first baseman Jake Hanley who transferred to UGA from Indiana. Hanley is the No. 2 overall player in the Transfer Portal, so that makes it abundantly clear how big his pickup was.
Then just a few hours later Georgia added designated hitter Naulivou Lauaki Jr. from Oregon who may just have the most power out of any hitter in all of college baseball.
Their additions propelled Georgia to the No.1 Transfer Portal class ranking, and if Johnson can stay there next season could be just as special as this past year was.
Can Georgia validate the impressive season they had in 2026?
This past year was the first season that Georgia found a lot of success under Johnson. This was only his third season as head coach, so the fact that he won the SEC and made the College World Series that fast is an impressive feat.
Anyone can have a really good year one time though, but what makes a program special is if they can do it year after year. That is what Kirby Smart has done with the football program and what Mike White is doing with the basketball program after making the NCAA Tournament two years in a row.
No one should expect Georgia to win the SEC next season because that is extremely difficult to accomplish, but UGA should at worst be competing for the SEC crown. They also should get back into the NCAA Tournament and make a good run at the College World Series as well.
Until Georgia gets back to the CWS or wins the SEC again this past season could be labeled as a fluke. However, the second they win another championship or get back to the College World Series everyone will have to admit that Georgia is a legit program.
It's been awhile since Georgia has been able to say that about their baseball program, but that is the trajectory Johnson has UGA trending. These big transfer acquisitions will certainly help, but Georgia has to have another good year next spring to prove that this past season wasn't just a lucky run.
