Anyone who pays even a little bit of attention to Georgia basketball will tell you that the program is on the rise. The Bulldogs haven't made the NCAA tournament since 2015, but the program appears to be trending in the right direction.
The team made the NIT final four last season and as a result have seen an uptick in recruiting. That was seen in a huge way on Tuesday as Mike White earned a commitment from four-star prospect Kareem Stagg.
Stagg is the second commit in the Bulldogs 2025 class. He joins four-star forward Jacob Wilkins in Georgia’s class that is now in the top 15 in the country. Both prospects are ranked inside the top 100 which almost any program in the country would be happy with.
This impressive feat however has become the norm in Athens.
Three straight years with two top-100 recruits
As I already mentioned, Stagg and Wilkins make up the Bulldogs’ 2025 class and are the No. 72 and No. 50 players in the country. This has become the trend in Georgia’s recruiting classes as the 2024 class also had two players in the top 100. Those players were five-star Asa Newell at No. 19 and Somto Cyril at No. 46.
But going back one year further to the 2023 class, where this trend began, is when Georgia’s recruiting success really began. That class had three prospects in the top 100, including Silas Demary Jr. at No. 72, Blue Cain at No. 77, and Dylan James at No. 87.
This is the first time in Georgia basketball history that they have had three straight recruiting classes with two players inside the top 100. Recruiting for Georgia basketball usually isn’t even close to this level, but White clearly has the program trending in a direction we haven't seen in some time.
Now the hope is that the off the court success translates onto the court this season. And the greatest indicator of that would be a trip to the NCAA tournament for the first time in a decade.
