Georgia basketball kicked their SEC season off as they traveled to Ole Miss to take on the No. 24 team in the country. Mike White and the Bulldogs were off to one of the best starts in school history as they entered this game at 12-1, but UGA still found themselves outside of the AP Poll's top 25 and underdogs in this game.
And that was for good reason as Georgia suffered their second loss of the season 63-51.
Georgia comes up short against the Rebels
The Bulldogs got off to a hot start in this game as they led Ole Miss 28-26 at the half. But that is when the Rebels finally woke up as they went on an 11-2 run to start the second half. Georgia never led again after this burst from Ole Miss, but they did pull within two points with about six minutes remaining.
But Ole Miss went on another run to close the game out and win by a comfortable 12 point margin.
The road for Georgia does not get any easier after this game as their next six games are against teams ranked inside the top 25, with five of the six coming against teams currently inside the top 12. If the Bulldogs want to stay inside the projected NCAA Tournament field, they are going to have to find a way to win a few of these games, but even winning one seems like a tall task at this point.
Georgia's next game is their SEC home opener against No. 10 Kentucky on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The Wildcats have been one of the best teams in the conference so far this season, so a win is going to be extremely difficult. But thankfully the game is at home, so Georgia will have a great chance to pull off the upset win to get their season back on track.
