Georgia basketball heads south for biggest test of the season
Georgia basketball is off to a perfect 5-0 start this season. Four of these wins have come against very weak competition, but UGA did what they needed to do in those games and dominated their opponents. The Bulldogs also already have a victory on the road when the beat in-state rival Georgia Tech on their court 77-69.
Now with the vibes surrounding this team at an all time high, Georgia is actually heading out of the country to play their two biggest games of the season.
Georgia to face two ranked opponents in the Bahamas
Georgia basketball is scheduled to take on No. 15 Marquette this Saturday at 11 am EST in the Bahamas. Marquette is also a perfect 5-0, but their resume is a little stronger than UGAs. Marquette beat a solid Maryland team on the road then in their last game out took down No. 6 Purdue 76-58. So while Marquette is already ranked very high, they are playing at a top 10 level if not higher right now.
Then the very next day, Georgia is scheduled to take on No. 22 St. Johns in the Bahamas as well. St. Johns is 4-1 so far this season and just lost their first game of the season on Thursday to No. 13 Baylor 99-98 in double overtime. So that is hardly a bad loss for St. Johns and shows that they are playing very well right now too.
So this is the weekend that everyone finds out just how good Mike White's Georgia team is. While their 5-0 record is still impressive, it lacks a high quality opponent that Georgia can measure themselves against. That will change this weekend against these two opponents.
Obviously UGA wants to win both games, but as long as they go 1-1 then that would be a success for this team. That would announce to the college basketball world that this Georgia team is in fact a legit threat to make a run at an NCAA tournament bid this year.
