Georgia basketball has had quite the up and down season this year. The Bulldogs got off to a magnificent start to the season in non-conference play, only losing once before SEC play began. Mike White and the Bulldogs even got off to a fast start in conference play and were ranked inside the AP Poll's top 25 for the first time in years.

But then the losses began piling up, so much so that Georgia was on the outside looking in when it came to the NCAA Tournament just three weeks ago. Then Georgia did something no one say coming and beat a top five Florida team en route to their four game winning streak to end the regular season.

Georgia unfortunately dropped their opening round game of the SEC Tournament to Oklahoma, but most felt that Georgia's place in the NCAA Tournament was guaranteed after the great finish to the regular season. But after missing the NCAA Tournament for a decade straight, there was a part of Georgia fans that had to wait until Selection Sunday before celebrating making it into the tournament.

That wait however is finally over as Georgia just heard their name called during the Selection Sunday show for the first time since 2015.

Georgia earns 9-seed in the Big Dance

Late Sunday night, Georgia found out that they earned the 9-seed in the Midwest region of the NCAA Tournament. Their first opponent will be 8-seed Gonzaga with a potential matchup with 1-seed Houston looming in the second round if the Bulldogs win.

While this is Georgia's first time in the Big Dance since 2015, it has actually been since 2002 since Georgia won a game when UGA beat 14-seed Murray State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. That win was later vacated, so the last win to still count according to the record books was in 1996 against 1-seed Purdue.

The goal for this team may not be to win a National Championship as most Georgia fans are probably fine with making it into the tournament in general, but this Georgia team is playing well enough where they could rattle off a few wins and become this year's Cinderella story.
