Georgia football’s season may have ended before anyone hoped for, but that doesn’t mean it’s time for UGA’s fanbase to stop cheering for their Bulldogs. Usually at this point it’s time to sit around and wait for next football season to get here, but Georgia basketball is giving everyone a reason to be extremely excited.
Mike White and the Bulldogs were off to their best start in program history since the 30s after starting the year 12-1. Unfortunately, that great start came to an end as Georgia lost their SEC opener to Ole Miss this past weekend. Losing this game was tough for a lot of reasons, but the biggest reason was the fact that Georgia faced No. 6 Kentucky next, so starting 0-2 in conference play was a very real possibility.
However, Georgia not only beat Kentucky Tuesday night, they dominated them.
Georgia handles Kentucky at home
Georgia took down No. 6 Kentucky at home in front of one of the most electric crowds in UGA basketball history 82-69. The Bulldogs were led by star freshman Asa Newell who finished with 17 points and seven rebounds and Blue Cain who added 15 points and a team high eight rebounds.
Georgia was also dominant on defense as well as they forced 14 turnovers, held Kentucky to just 24 percent shooting from 3-point range, and won the rebounding battle 41-34. Add all of this together and you get a marquee victory at home in front of a sellout crowd.
Up next for Georgia is another ranked opponent in Oklahoma who will come to Athens for a Saturday night game. The No. 17 Sooners only have one loss so far this season, but a lot of that has to do with their easy schedule they’ve played so far this season.
So look for Georgia to get their second ranked win of the week, which would announce to the world that they are serious threats to make the NCAA Tournament and finally earn a ranking in the AP Top 25 Poll.
