Georgia football has spent most of the month of July sitting at No. 2 in the team recruiting rankings. They have had the No.1 class in the SEC for quite some time now, but the Bulldogs still trailed USC for the No. 1 class in the country.
Fast forward to Thursday and Georgia now has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Georgia jumps USC for No. 1 class in the country
Earlier this month Georgia did ascend to the No. 1 class in the country in the Rivals recruiting rankings. The excitement surrounding this however did not last long because a Georgia commit decommitted from the program just 24 hours later which dropped UGA back to No. 2.
The Bulldogs have stayed put at No. 2 in the team recruiting rankings since then, but 247Sports updated their composite rankings on Thursday which sent Georgia past the Trojans and into the No. 1 spot again.
The only thing that matters now is if Georgia can remain at No. 1 by the end of this recruiting cycle. That is going to be difficult to accomplish because there are a few programs who could very realistically catch up to and surpass Georgia. So the Bulldogs are going to have to earn a handful of commitments still in the 2026 class if they want to end the year with the No. 1 class in the country.
Kirby Smart has signed a top two class in the country three years in a row now which includes signing the No. 1 class during the 2024 recruiting cycle. So the expectation will be for Georgia to fall no lower than No. 2, which would give the Bulldogs four straight years of having the No. 2 or No. 1 class in the country.
