Tuesday, May 13 had a chance to be a legendary day for Georgia football, that unfortunately did not end up happening. The Bulldogs did receive some good news from one five-star recruit, but it doesn’t even come close to making up for the major disappointment that put a black cloud over Athens for the rest of the day.
Jackson Cantwell picks Miami over Georgia
Five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell is the No. 1 overall recruit in the country, and many thought he was leaning towards committing to Georgia. That however turned out to be wrong as Cantwell chose Miami (FL) over the Bulldogs on Tuesday.
Many think a massive NIL offer caused Cantwell to change his mind, but he is adamant that isn’t true. Regardless of his reasoning, Georgia officially missed out on the best recruit in the country who would have paired perfectly with recent five-star quarterback commit Jared Curtis.
Two 5-star tight ends could be Georgia’s next big commitments
Georgia now has earned a commitment from a five-star player and lost out on one within a span of eight days. That is a lot of news to happen surrounding five-star recruits in such a short amount of time, but that’s the norm at a place like Georgia.
So who could be the next five-star commitment for Georgia?
The Bulldogs are after a lot of other five-stars in the 2026 class, but there are three that stand out. Tight ends Kaiden Prothro and Mark Bowman, who was just predicted to commit to Georgia, are two five-star players on offense who are leaning towards UGA right now. Georgia also is a massive leader for five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson as well.
It’s unclear when any of these three players will commit, but Georgia currently leads for all three so any one of them could be their next five-star commit.
New 5-star visitor is coming to Georgia this weekend
Why not continue with more news from a five-star player? This time it’s wide receiver Cederian Morgan who shared that he will be in Athens this weekend to take his official visit to Georgia.
Morgan is a top 20 player in the country and the No. 2 wide receiver in the 2026 class, so he is yet another elite player that Georgia is in a good position with.
