Friday was not a good day for Georgia football on the recruiting trail. Thankfully Georgia’s baseball squad got off to a great start in the NCAA Tournament, but it’s hard to overlook the couple pieces of bad news that happened on the recruiting trail for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.

So let’s begin with the football news first and save the positive baseball news for last.

No. 1 TE picks USC over Georgia

Mark Bowman is the No. 1 tight end in the country, and many thought Georgia was the team to beat for him. Texas was another team people claimed were in a good spot for him as well, but Bowman turned his back on both schools.

On Friday, Bowman announced his commitment to USC over Georgia and Texas. This news isn’t the end of the world because Georgia is still in a good spot for five-star Kaiden Prothro while also having a commitment from four-star Lincoln Keyes already, but Bowman’s commitment to USC on Friday came out of nowhere.

Georgia commit visiting Michigan this weekend

This unfortuantely wasn’t the only bad news for Georgia football that occurred on Friday. Four-star UGA wide receiver commit Brady Marchese announced Friday that he was taking a surprise visit to Michigan this weekend.

It’s unclear how serious Marchese might be about flipping away from Georgia, but seeing him visit a blue blood like Michigan is a bit concerning.

Georgia baseball dominates NCAA Regional opener

Georgia baseball began their NCAA Tournament run on Friday in Athens against No. 4 Binghamton. Quite literally anything is possible in postseason baseball, so even though Georgia is the No. 1 seed in this region, that isn’t a guarantee that they’ll win and advance.

But that’s exactly what they did Friday as they dominated Binghamton 20-4.

Georgia will battle No. 2 Duke in the winner’s bracket of the regional Saturday at 6:00 pm EST, with the winner of that game taking control of the Athens Regional.
