One recruit Georgia has been aggressively targeting for a while now is tight end Mark Bowman. Bowman was an obvious recruit for UGA to pursue because he is a five-star recruit and the No. 1 tight end in the country, according to On3.
Earning a commitment from a No. 1 recruit is very challenging, but Georgia has proven time and time again that they are more than capable, especially under Kirby Smart. And things seemed to be going Georgia’s way in Bowman’s recruitment because a Rivals insider predicted Georgia to win this recruitment on Thursday.
Unfortunately for Georgia, that turned out to not be the case as On3 reported Friday that Bowman has officially committed to USC.
Georgia loses top ranked tight end to USC
Losing any recruitment is a tough pill to swallow, but that is especially the case when the recruit is as talented as Bowman. It’s even more difficult considering Georgia was thought to be the leader just a few hours ago.
But things change all the time in recruiting, and that appears to be the case with Bowman. Sure there is a chance that the Rivals insider was just flat out wrong, but hopefully that isn’t true because he also predicted Georgia to land Kaiden Prothro, who is the No. 2 tight end in the country.
While adding Bowman would have been huge for Georgia, missing on him isn’t the end of the world. The Bulldogs already have a four-star tight end committed to their 2026 class in Lincoln Keyes, and they still might be the leader for the already mentioned Prothro. So pairing Prothro with Keyes would be an excellent haul for Georgia at this position.
There also is the chance Bowman changes his mind and flips to Georgia in the future. That’s a hard thing to ever count on, but the Trojans have had issues keeping players committed to their class this cycle, so anything is still possible.
