Friday was not a good day for Georgia football on the recruiting trail. One of their biggest weekend visitors has decided to change his plans while one of Georgia’s top commits is beginning to have a wandering eye as well. Even Georgia baseball didn’t give UGA fans any reason to cheer on Friday.

So let’s dive right in and discuss some disappointing updates from May 16.

5-star Xavier Griffin changes his mind

Five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin is the top ranked linebacker in the country, according to 247Sports. Griffin had a major change in his recruitment this past week as he decommitted from USC, a school he had been committed to since last summer.

One day after this big update, Griffin announced an upcoming visit to Athens this weekend. But Friday word came out that this visit was no longer taking place.

No reason for this change has been shared publicly, regardless this is another big loss for Georgia with a five-star player this week.

Georgia commit Vance Spafford is keeping his options open

One of Georgia’s top commits in their 2026 recruiting class is wide receiver Vance Spafford. Spafford is the No. 85 overall player in the country according to the On3 industry ranking, and he committed to Georgia back in November.

But even though he has been committed to UGA for some time now, he will reportedly still be taking four official visits elsewhere this summer.

Spafford hasn’t shown a lot of signs as someone who could potentially flip away from Georgia, but these upcoming visits are scary. Georgia fans need to pay extra close attention to the USC and UCLA visits, because Spafford is from California and the opportunity to play for a local school could be tough to pass up.

But hopefully these visits don’t transpire into anything, because Spafford would be a massive addition to Georgia’s program.

Texas A&M gets their revenge

Georgia baseball won game one against Texas A&M on Thursday 10-6, but Friday night was about as bad as it can get. The Bulldogs mustered just three hits as A&M won the second matchup 6-0 Friday night. And to make it even worse, Friday was Georgia’s senior night.

Georgia and the Aggies will battle for the series win Saturday afternoon, and for Georgia there is a lot on the line. Seeding and positioning in the SEC Tournament is critical right now, as is their hopes of earning a top eight seed in the NCAA Tournament. A win and Georgia would be in good standing, but a loss would spell disaster for the Bulldogs’ hopes on both accounts.
