Saturday proved to be a big day for Georgia athletics. Georgia got a great result in their SEC opener on the hardwood while hosting the nation's No. 1 recruit. On top of that, Georgia football had one of their top players make an announcement that will shake up their entire program.

But let's begin first with the big win for the basketball program as they found a way to take down one of their biggest rivals in dramatic fashion.

1. Georgia basketball takes down Auburn in SEC opener

Georgia basketball opened up SEC play after a 12-1 start on Saturday against Auburn. While a 12-1 record clearly is very good, critics were quick to point out the easy schedule Georgia has faced. Auburn however is not an easy opponent, so this was a great opportunity to prove their doubters wrong.

And that is exactly what they did as they took down Auburn 104-100 in overtime.

This win proves that Georgia is legit this season and will more than likely make the NCAA Tournament for the second season in a row. But not only that, Georgia proved they can compete with any team in the SEC and that they have a shot to make a run at a conference championship.

2. Georgia hosts nation's No. 1 recruit

Georgia's win over Auburn wasn't the only big story of the day for the basketball program. The Bulldogs had a big name visitor in attendance at the game as five-star small forward AJ Williams came to Athens for a visit.

Williams is the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2028 recruiting class who is from the state of Georgia. So while Georgia typically doesn't stand a chance with recruits of his calibar, him being from the Peach State will help their cause.

Georgia will have to take down college basketball's best programs to win this recruitment, but they have Williams' attention and have a shot to bring him to Athens.

3. Christen Miller is off to the NFL

A handful of Bulldogs have already opted to enter the Transfer Portal, but so far Georgia hasn't had an impactful loss. Defensive lineman Christen Miller however has announced that he is declaring for the NFL Draft, and he is a big loss.

Miller was Georgia's top defensive lineman this year as he finished the season with 23 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Those stats may not jump off the paper, but he was one of the highest graded linemen in the entire country this season (according to PFF).

It will be interesting to see which NFL team decides to pick him, but regardless this is a huge loss that Georgia will have to work very hard to replace.
