Thursday, March 20 marked a historic day in Georgia athletics as the men’s basketball team was back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015. That however wasn’t the only major news that took place because the football program released a very unfortunate headline as well.

So let’s jump right in and share the three big developments that took place in Athens on March 20.

Georgia basketball bounced out of NCAA Tournament

Georgia basketball had their first NCAA Tournament game since 2015 on Thursday when they took on 8-seed Gonzaga. Excitement for this game was obviously very high, but that excitement didn’t last long as Gonzaga dominated the entire game, winning 89-68.

While this game was a massive disappointment, it shouldn’t take away from the amazing season Georgia had. Mike White clearly has this program trending in the right direction, so next year it will be interesting to see if they can get back to the tournament and win a game this time.

Two Georgia football suspensions

Georgia football is five practices deep in their spring ball schedule, but that unfortunately was not why the Bulldogs were in the headlines on Thursday. Georgia released a statement Thursday sharing that wide receiver Nitro Tuggle and offensive lineman Marques Easley were suspended indefinitely for unrelated driving incidents.

It’s a shame this keeps happening in the Georgia program because this is now part of their reputation. So instead of everyone just thinking about Georgia being one of the best programs in the country on the field, they also think about all the driving related incidents that keep occurring within the program as well.

Georgia has “slight edge” for 5-star QB Jared Curtis

Five-star quarterback Jared Curtis is potentially nearing a final decision. Curtis was once committed to Georgia, but he has since backed off of that commitment before narrowing his recruitment down to Georgia and Oregon moving forward.

The Bulldogs and Ducks both hosted Curtis on a visit last week, and Rivals shared some key intel following those visits. This includes Curtis loving how close Athens is to his hometown in Tennessee while likely having a better NIL offer from Oregon. Rivals also shared that neither program knows who the leader currently is, but Adam Gorney who shared this update feels the Bulldogs have the “slight edge” right now with a commitment potentially coming within a few weeks.
