Georgia football ran into some difficulties on the recruiting trail on Sunday as word came out that rival Florida is attempting to flip one of their top commits. On top of that, the Bulldogs have officially missed on a very important five-star recruit as well.
But let's begin with some good news first that came from a five-star Georgia running back target.
5-star RB Derrek Cooper looks like a Bulldog
Georgia is hoping to get some good news from five-star running back Derrek Cooper on July 20 when he announces his commitment. The Bulldogs have been predicted to win this recruitment, but Cooper recently was seen wearing Georgia gloves during a workout as well.
This could mean absolutely nothing or it could be a sign from Cooper that he will be committing to Georgia next Sunday. Regardless, there are a lot of reasons for Georgia fans to be hopeful entering the final week of Cooper’s recruitment.
Florida attempting to flip top Georgia commit
One of Georgia's best commits so far in the 2026 class is from four-star defensive lineman James Johnson. In fact, On3 ranks Johnson as the No. 1 defensive lineman in the entire country.
Johnson committed to Georgia at the end of June, but a new report from 247Sports analyst Tyler Harden indicates that Florida is attempting to flip Johnson from UGA. Harden also mentioned that two other unnamed teams are still pursuing Johnson as well.
It remains to be seen if Georgia can hold on to Johnson's commitment or not, but this is definitely a recruitment to pay close attention to going forward.
Georgia misses on nation's No. 1 OL
Georgia currently has the No. 2 recruiting class in the country, but they have struggled a little with offensive linemen this cycle. The Bulldogs do hold four commitments from offensive linemen, but 247Sports has three of those recruits ranked as three-stars.
This means that Georgia could use some more help in the trenches in this class, but that unfortunately will not be coming from the No. 1 offensive lineman in the country Darius Gray who excluded Georgia from his final five on Sunday.
