Georgia Bulldogs News: Gunner Stockton comparison, new leader, Carson Beck delusion

Georgia football had their first day in over a week without a commitment, but the news was still heavy on Sunday.

Georgia football is fresh off earning a commitment each of the last seven days, but that streak unfortunately came to an end on Sunday. Even though that is the case, there were still countless important updates and stories that involved Georgia on Sunday.

So let's dive right into these updates, beginning first with an interesting remark from Georgia's potential starting quarterback.

Gunner Stockton agrees with Stetson Bennett comparison

Gunner Stockton will be Georgia's full time starting quarterback for the first time this fall, assuming he beats out Ryan Puglisi for the job. Considering this is his first time starting for a full season, there are countless question marks surrounding him entering the season.

Even with those questions though, Stockton has been compared to Georgia legend Stetson Bennett. Some people believe this comparison shouldn't be made because of all the success Bennett found at Georgia, but looking only at the styles they play it's impossible to ignore the countless similarities.

Stockton himself was even quoted recently saying that he sees "a lot of similarities" between him and Bennett including their mobility, quickness and swagger.

Stockton has a lot to prove before he even comes close to Bennett's greatness, but the thought of him being anything like Bennett is extremely exciting.

Georgia named new leader for 4-star LB

Georgia football has been on fire with the 2026 recruiting class recently. The Bulldogs have earned seven commitments over the last week, which is something that no other program is able to say.

This momentum will hopefully carry Georgia throughout the rest of the 2026 recruiting cycle, but this momentum has also bled into the 2027 recruiting class as well. One player who is very high on Georgia is four-star linebacker Cole Crawford, who recently said that Georgia is the leader in his recruitment right now.

Crawford is the No. 225 player in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings while also being from the state of Georgia, so this is a recruitment UGA will likely prioritize and hopefully win when it's all said and done.

Miami is setting Carson Beck up for failure

Expectations are sky-high for Carson Beck at Miami (FL) this season. The Hurricanes are one of the favorites to win the ACC, and one of the biggest reasons why is because of what Beck brings to the table.

Miami head coach Mario Cristobal is extremely high on his new quarterback as well which is not surprising, but his latest statement about Beck is as delusional as it gets. When talking about Beck, Cristobal went as far as to say that he is the "second coming of Joe Burrow."

This statement does more harm than good for Beck because Burrow is arguably the best college quarterback of the last decade. So putting these expectations on him, expectations he likely won't live up to, could hurt him and Miami in the long run this season.
