Friday was potentially the biggest news day all offseason not just for Georgia football, but for the entire country. So let’s not waste any time and get right into it because this first piece of news will change college athletics forever.
House Settlement should propel Georgia to another level
The House Settlement that has been talked about for what feels like forever is officially in place. This means that athletic program will now operate off a $20.5 million revenue share for their entire athletic programs.
NIL deals can supplement payments to athletes over their revenue share amount, but those deals will have to be approved by a third party committee if they exceed $600. And it sounds like this committee will be very strict and not allow the massive deals the college football world has seen over the last few years.
These changes in theory should level the playing field when it comes to recruiting. This will force the old methods of recruiting to matter more such as building relationships and selling on field success. This is what Kirby Smart and his staff are best at, so expect Georgia to propel to another level now that this settlement is in place.
New NIL opportunity for Georgia fans
Georgia fans have a new way they can help contribute to the financial success of Georgia football. The release of EA Sports College Football 26 is set for July 10, and simply playing as Georgia in this game will put money in Georgia’s pocket.
EA Sports will pay every FBS school a percentage of royalties equal to the percentage of games played with their team in the game. So the more games played using Georgia the more money UGA will make.
Two SEC flip candidates
Recruiting flips might be the most fun thing that happens every offseason. Georgia once agains has their eyes set on a couple flip targets from the SEC including Auburn wide receiver commit Devin Carter and former Alabama offensive line commit Zykie Helton.
Georgia is currently in a better spot with Helton simply because he is no longer committed to Alabama, but these are two names to pay very close attention to the rest of the summer.
