Georgia football received some great news on Wednesday in the form of two more Bulldogs being named to a preseason watch list for a prestigious award. However, a new SEC team was predicted to dethrone Georgia while an ACC coach made an interesting comment about Kirby Smart.
So let’s begin with that comment because it came from a former Georgia coach who just left the program.
Fran Brown doesn’t want to be like Kirby Smart
Former Georgia football assistant Fran Brown is off to a great start in his head coaching career at Syracuse. He obviously learned a lot from coaching under Smart at Georgia, but he was quick to admit recently that he doesn’t want to be like him.
It is worth noting that he did not mean this in a negative way. Brown said that he learned a lot from Smart and is applying a lot of what he learned to how he coaches at Syracuse, but Brown does just want to be himself at the end of the day and not exactly like Smart.
New SEC team predicted to steal Georgia’s throne
Alabama and Texas are the two most likely teams to dethrone Georgia and win the SEC this season. However, On3 analyst J.D. Pickell recently predicted LSU to not only win the SEC this season, but to also win the National Championship.
The Tigers have a very strong roster this season and are definitely the first team in the tier below Georgia, Alabama and Texas, so there is a chance they could break through this season and dethrone Georgia. But not many college football fans or analysts are bold enough to predict that to occur, let alone predict LSU to win the National Championship.
But this prediction just goes to show how deep the SEC is and how difficult it will be fire Georgia to repeat as conference champions.
2 Bulldogs named to Jim Thorpe Award watch list
The Jim Thorpe Award goes to the nation’s best defensive back at the end of every season. The preseason watch list for this award was just released on Wednesday, and Georgia superstars Daylen Everette and KJ Bolden were the two Bulldogs to be included on that list.
Georgia’s defense is going to have to be special this year if UGA is going to find a lot of success this season, and a big reason why Georgia’s defense could be great this year is because of the potential both Everette and Bolden possess.
