Georgia football's season opener is almost here. Fans have waited all year for college football to return, and that wait is finally over. Unfortunately for Georgia they found out on Monday that one of their defensive lineman is no longer with the team.
Georgia did get some good news from their prized five-star quarterback Jayden Wade on Monday, but the departure of one Bulldog, along with the extreme heat that is predicted for Saturday's game, made Monday's news cycle not as exciting as fans hoped it would be.
Georgia DL Xzavier McLeod is no longer on Bulldogs’ roster
Georgia is only a few days away from their season opener, but one of their veteran defenders is nowhere to be found on their official roster. That player is senior defensive lineman Xzavier McLeod who reportedly has retired from football.
His reason for doing so isn't public, but he is no longer with the team which leaves a hole that Georgia will have to fill.
McLeod spent the last two seasons at Georgia where he recorded 30 total tackles. He also started a few games for Georgia in the second half of last season too, so his departure will be felt but the Bulldogs' defense.
Georgia ultimately has the talent and depth to replace him, but they would be in a better place with him still on their roster.
5-star Jayden Wade schedules critical visit to Georgia
Five-star Georgia quarterback commit Jayden Wade just announced that he will be visiting Georgia for their week two matchup against Western Kentucky on Sept. 12.
This is Wade's one and only scheduled visit so far this fall. That is significnat news because if he doesn't visit other schools then he most likely will never decommit from Georgia and flip elsewhere.
Multiple schools, namely Michigan, are after Wade. He has listened to their pitches and hasn't completely shut the door on them yet, but he has remained loyal to Georgia and kept his commitment in tact since he made his pledge to Georgia last November. He may take other visits in the future, but if he only visits Georgia then UGA should feel great about where they stand with him.
Georgia vs. Tennessee State will be played in extreme heat
Georgia's season opener this year against Tennessee State on Saturday will be played in extreme heat. Their first few games are typically hot every season, but Saturday's season opener could be one of the hottest games in program history as air temperatures will be just over 100 degrees at kickoff.
On field temperatures are always higher than the air temperature, so players and fans will have to deal with tempertures even higher than 100 during the game.
Kirby Smart and Georgia are prepared for this heat though. They have practiced and scrimmaged in similar heat a few times throughout fall camp, so they will be ready to endure this heat. Who knows if Tennessee State will be ready for these temperatures, but if they aren't then Georgia could use their experience to their advantage.
