Georgia and Texas are continuing to look more and more like a traditional rivalry in the SEC. Sure they will never actually be that, but they have butted heads all offseason and that reached an all time high during SEC Media Days this week.
Before diving into that drama, let's first celebrate the big update that one of Georgia's current commits received in the recruiting rankings.
Georgia commit Taurean Rawlins earns his fourth star
Georgia fans haven't had a lot to celebrate on the recruiting trail this year. The Bulldogs do have a fair amount of elite commits, but only having the No. 12 class in the country has put a damper on the mood.
Wide receiver commit Taurean Rawlins just gave Georgia a reason to celebrate though because he earned his fourth star on the 247Sports composite rankings.
This helps Georgia solve the biggest complain fans have had, too many three-star commits. Ultimately that should never bother anyone because why would anyone trust recruiting rankings over Kirby Smart's evaluations? But Georgia has another four-star in their recruiting class which is a nice (but small) win.
Kirby Smart took direct aim at Steve Sarkisian during SEC Media Days
SEC Media Days is officially in the books, and Georgia and Texas unsurprisingly were the most talked about teams.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian made the most headlines though as he made a lot of controversial remarks about how he builds his program. He even admitted that he pushed some of his players out this offseason just to make room for more transfers.
This is the last thing Smart would ever do, and he said that he thinks his "investment in our (Georgia's) players" trumps the investment schools have when they force players out just to buy new ones.
Smart didn't say anything about Sarkisian or Texas directly, but it's clear that they fit this description. Sarkisian probably doesn't mind since he was proud to say that he forced players to leave his program, but all the championships Georgia's won recently should make him think twice about how he's running his program.
New court ruling swings the SEC Championship more in Texas's favor
Texas made a big move this week that could have a massive impact on the SEC Championship race. Star offensive lineman Cole Hutson finished his fourth season with Texas last year after appearing in 48 games throughout his career. Instead of going pro or starting his life in the real world, he instead went to court to try and earn a fifth year of eligibility.
And somehow he was granted that.
Hutson got hurt during his sophomore season in 2023, but he still played in nine games that year. That might be what he is basing his argument on to get another year at Texas, but does that mean anyone who misses at least one game in their career should get another season?
It makes absolutely no sense why he was given another year, but Texas is getting back an offensive lineman with 23 career starts who will make their team much better this season.
