Former Georgia football running back Nick Chubb is calling it quits after an amazing career both at Georgia and in the NFL. Stetson Bennett's battle to be the Rams' backup quarterback this season also saw a new development while the Georgia women's soccer team just set an NCAA record too.
Chubb however is the biggest news story of the past few days for Georgia, and while it is sad to see his career come to an end Georgia fans should be thankful they got to experience every second of it.
Former Georgia RB Nick Chubb retires from football
Former Georgia running back Nick Chubb announced that he was retiring from football on Friday night. This decision came after an injury-riddled end to his NFL career, but his impact on the field will be remembered both on the college and NFL level.
Chubb played four years at Georgia where he ended with the second-most rushing yards in program history. He also helped kick off Kirby Smart's tenure by being a dominant force during his first two years as head coach. Chubb played a large role on the 2017 team that won Smart's first SEC Championship that also went on to win their first playoff game in program history.
He was also a four-time Pro Bowler throughout his NFL career and was named a second team All-Pro during the 2022 season.
Chubb will always be remembered as one of the greatest Georgia running backs of all time, but who he was off the field is why he is one of the fan favorites from Smart's tenure as head coach.
LA Rams continue to operate as if Stetson Bennett is their backup QB
Stetson Bennett is still battling rookie Ty Simpson to be the Rams backup quarterback this season. Throughout training camp he has been the leader of this competition, and that was shown once again as Bennett received a majority of the snaps with the second team during the Rams' practice on Thursday.
Simpson did make life a little more difficult for Bennett after playing well in the Rams' first preseason game last week. He showed that he can be a good NFL quarterback during the first game of his career, but so far it doesn't look like it was enough to pass Bennett on the depth chart.
The Rams play their second preseason game on Saturday and head coach Sean McVay has not decided if Bennett will play and how much. It doesn't mean he isn't the Rams' backup if he doesn't play, but this would give Simpson even more opportunities to prove why he deserves that spot over him.
Georgia women’s soccer set an NCAA attendance record
Georgia women's soccer played their home opener on Thursday night, and during that game they set an NCAA soccer attendance record. They had 25,433 fans in attendance, and they did this by playing in Sanford Stadium.
This was the largest attendance for a men's or women's soccer game in NCAA history, so this was a special night for the women's soccer team. Not only was this record and playing inside Sanford Stadium such a big deal, but this was the first time a soccer game has been played in Sanford Stadium since the 1986 Olympics.
Thursday was an extremely special night in Sanford Stadium's history, now it is up to Kirby Smart and the football team to add to that throughout this football season.
