For the second Saturday in a row former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett got the start for the LA Rams preseason game while the Bulldogs had a fall scrimmage in Athens. Bennett responded after a minor setback last week with an amazing performance while a new quarterback battle appears to be underway behind Gunner Stockton.

Georgia’s season begins in two weeks, so fans have almost all of their attention on the Bulldogs right now. It however is hard to not pay attention to what’s happening in LA and the intense battle that Bennett might be running away with now.

Stetson Bennett shines during LA Rams' second preseason game

Saturday marked the LA Rams second preseason game of the year. All eyes were on Stetson Bennett to see if he would play or not since head coach Sean McVay didn’t reveal his plans ahead of time. Bennett ended up starting and playing the entire first half and he delivered a great performance.

He finished the day completing 19 of 31 passes for 181 yards. He didn’t throw a touchdown, but he scored two touchdowns on the ground and led the Rams to a 20-0 halftime lead.

Rookie quarterback Ty Simpson played in the second half but failed to live up to his performance from the Rams’ first preseason game. He only completed 8 of 12 passes for 73 yards to go with zero touchdowns through the air or on the ground.

The competition between Bennett and Simpson isn’t over yet, but all signs are pointing to Bennett being the clear leader over Simpson. That won’t be confirmed until McVay says so, but it looks like Bennett has a great chance to be the backup quarterback for the Rams this season.

Georgia’s second scrimmage revealed an intense competition to be Gunner Stockton’s backup

Georgia held their second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday and reports indicated that the offense played much better than their first scrimmage. This includes the quarterback position where a new competition has taken shape.

Gunner Stockton is Georgia's starter this year and there's nothing that can change that, but his backup isn't as obvious. Heading into fall camp the easy option to be Stockton's backup was Ryan Puglisi because he was his backup last year, but redshirt freshman Ryan Montgomery played well on Saturday and is challenging Puglisi for that spot.

It ultimately doesn’t matter too much who wins the job this year because they won’t be able to pass Stockton on the depth chart. The winner of this job though could have an inside track to be Georgia’s starting quarterback next season with Stockton’s college career ending after this year.

Georgia’s offense bounced back during second fall camp scrimmage

The story of the Bulldogs’ first scrimmage was that Georgia’s defense was the clear winner of the day. Fast forward one week to Saturday and that wasn’t the case this time around.

Georgia’s offense played much better during their second scrimmage. Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens looked like the elite running back duo fans are expecting them to be, and Gunner Stockton looked sharper to go along with the great day from backup Ryan Montgomery. True freshman Kaiden Prothro also stood out as a pass catcher as well.

Georgia’s defense still had many great moments and were led by their stars like defensive back Ellis Robinson who was all over the field. They however didn’t dominate like the first scrimmage, but they didn’t get embarrassed either as this scrimmage was much closer to an even matchup between the offense and defense.
