Georgia can only roll its eyes after seeing these 3 teams power ranked ahead of them

It is really us vs. them when it comes to how the Georgia Bulldogs should be viewed by the public.

Dumb people gotta work somewhere, and many of them work at ESPN. Through the first 10 weeks of the 2025 college football season, Georgia has looked the part of a top-five team throughout most of the campaign. The Dawgs have been ranked No. 5 overall in recent weeks by the AP voters. They are 7-1 on the season and 5-1 in SEC play. They have two signature wins on the year and one quality loss.

According to ESPN's Football Power Index, Georgia ranks sixth in FPI at 20.6 behind Ohio State (27.8), Indiana (27.5), Oregon (23.7), Alabama (22.6) and Notre Dame (21.1) for some dumb reason. They do rank ahead of Texas A&M (19.5), but we all know who the top five teams in the country are, right? They should be in some order Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio State and Texas A&M. This is not that hard...

Well, leave it up to ESPN to make a mess of it, based on where its writing staff power ranked Georgia...

  1. Ohio State Buckeyes
  2. Indiana Hoosiers
  3. Texas A&M Aggies
  4. Alabama Crimson Tide
  5. Oregon Ducks
  6. Ole Miss Rebels
  7. BYU Cougars
  8. Georgia Bulldogs
  9. Texas Tech Red Raiders
  10. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
  11. Oklahoma Sooners
  12. Virginia Cavaliers
  13. Texas Longhorns
  14. Louisville Cardinals
  15. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
  16. Vanderbilt Commodores
  17. Utah Utes
  18. Missouri Tigers
  19. Miami Hurricanes
  20. USC Trojans
  21. Michigan Wolverines
  22. Memphis Tigers
  23. Tennessee Volunteers
  24. Washington Huskies
  25. Iowa Hawkeyes

Based on whatever the hell this is, Georgia has a win over ESPN's No. 6 team in the country and another win over ESPN's No. 23 team in the country, with a three-point loss to ESPN's No. 4 team in the country. There are other faults in this top 25, but why on god's green earth are Oregon, Ole Miss and BYU all ranked above No. 8 Georgia? This is dumb and it needs to stop. Let's not be silly here...

Let's now unpack why having BYU, Ole Miss and Oregon power ranked ahead of Georgia is so wrong.

Why Georgia Bulldogs should be ranked ahead of No. 7 BYU Cougars

BYU may be undefeated at 8-0 overall and 5-0 in Big 12 play, but the Cougars have one ranked win. That came over arch rival Utah at home in The Holy War by three points. The Cougars still have to play at Texas Tech this week, as well as TCU, at Cincinnati and vs. UCF to finish the season. ESPN has BYU ranked 14th in FPI at 16.1, giving the Cougars a 74.1 percent chance to make the playoff this season.

Georgia may have one loss on the year, but it came in SEC play to Alabama... The Bulldogs blow the Cougars out of the water with an FPI of 20.6 and a playoff-percentage chance of 85.5. We are talking about Georgia being 4.5 points better in FPI over BYU, as well as having an 11.4-percent better chance of making the playoff over the Cougars. If not for the loss column, UGA wins in every metric.

BYU may have the look and feel of a playoff team, but what if the Cougars were to lose to Texas Tech?

Why Georgia Bulldogs should be ranked ahead of No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels

I don't know. Georgia beat Ole Miss head-to-head a few weeks ago. The Rebels literally could not stop the Bulldogs from scoring points on them. Georgia won an absolute barn-burner 43-35 in a game where the Dawgs did not even punt once. ESPN has Ole Miss coming in 13th at FPI with a 17.8 grade. The Rebels are just off the Dawgs' trail in terms of making the playoff at a projected 77.2 percentage.

Outside of the obvious head-to-head, Ole Miss has one win over a ranked team. That would be at Oklahoma two weeks ago. The Sooners are one loss away from being eliminated from the playoff. Ole Miss will not play another ranked team this year with The Citadel, Florida and at Mississippi State to finish the season. Frankly, this team must win out to get in to be safe. It has such a weak schedule...

It should be noted Ole Miss is the only SEC team to not play a Power Four foe in the non-conference.

Why Georgia Bulldogs should be ranked ahead of No. 5 Oregon Ducks

The utter infatuation of Oregon is insane! The Ducks have an identical 7-1 record as Georgia, but with a 4-1 mark in Big Ten play. They have not beaten a single team that is even close to being ranked right now. They beat Penn State on the road in overtime before we knew that team stunk to high heaven. The only team Oregon played that is worth a damn was home vs. Indiana, and they lost by 10 points!

Unbelievably, FPI gives Oregon the third best mark at 23.7 for effectively attending weekly cake walks. Like BYU and Ole Miss, this is probably a playoff team, as they have a 76.1-percent chance to make it in. Right now, their best win is at Northwestern. The Wildcats are 5-3 and have not achieved bowl eligibility yet. Fortunately for us, losses may be coming: at Iowa, Minnesota, USC and at U-Dub.

Iowa is dangerous, Minnesota is feisty, USC might be good, and Oregon has a Washington problem...
