Georgia football’s pursuit of earning the No. 1 recruiting class in the country greatly improved on Saturday. Even after two commitments on Saturday though, the Bulldogs still find themselves at No. 2 in the country according to 247Sports.
But USC fans should be very nervous, because Georgia is as close to surpassing them as they can possibly be.
Georgia is right on USC’s tail for the No. 1 recruiting class
Saturday marked what was potentially the best day of recruiting for Georgia so far this year. The Bulldogs earned not one, but two impressive commitments on July 12. These commitments came from five-star tight end Kaiden Prothro and four-star safety Tyriq Green, who is the No. 151 overall player in the country.
Normally these commitments occurring on the same day would shoot Georgia up the team recruiting rankings, but that didn’t happen this time. The Bulldogs already had the No. 2 class in the country, and unfortunately these commitments weren’t enough to surpass the Trojans for the top spot.
However, USC does have a slight advantage because they still have two more commits than Georgia in the 2026 class. These two extra commits is the only reason why USC is still ahead of Georgia, because the Bulldogs now have the higher class average between these two programs.
So as long as USC doesn’t add a commit before Georgia, the Bulldogs should expect to take the No. 1 spot from the Trojans soon. In fact, five-star running back Derrek Cooper, who many believe is trending to Georgia, would move UGA past the Trojans if he commits to Georgia. His commitment is scheduled for July 20, so that has a chance to be the day Georgia officially takes the top spot from USC.
Georgia fans however shouldn’t worry too much about that right now, because the two commitments earned on Saturday is a good enough reason to feel extremely confident about the direction of the program.
